Fundraising Dinner for the Kinship Programme

Little Angels Network Society held a fundraising dinner for the Kinship program at a Nairobi Hotel. The event was graced and headline by Professor Olive Mugenda, the former Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University. Also attending were dozens of guests whose generous contributions will go a long way in supporting the work of the kinship programme. Kinship care refers to the placement of children with relatives or with close family friends who are technically referred to as fictive kin. As such, kinship entails reintegrating children into the care of their extended families or close family friends.

Kinship makes it possible for vulnerable children to receive social, psychological and material support from the extended family.

The Kinship Fundraising Dinner was also addressed by LANS Chairperson Dr. Florence Musiime. In her speech she reminded people about the power of family in the holistic nurture of children.

Indeed, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) which came into force almost thirty years ago on 2nd September 1990, recognizes that children have the best chance of developing their full potential in a family environment,” Dr. Musiime said.
